How do you best fill a punching bag?

Buying an empty punching bag is always cheaper than being filled one. Additionally, you can control how heavy and dense by filling it by yourself. Although filling the punching bag is simple, it is essential to choose a suitable material. Star Combat allows you to choose empty punch bags to customize them according to desire and training requirements. We will guide you on filling empty bags correctly without compromising the comfort and safety of your training session.

How to fill a Punching Bag

It is pretty easy to stuff the punch bag using proper resources and preparing appropriately to ensure safety. We will try to guide you step by step to fill your bag correctly, efficiently, and quickly to practice.

Step 1: Choose Filling

How to fill a Punching Bag

Make sure how heavy and dense you want your bag to be.

It will be relatively harder to move if a bag has a higher weight and density. A less dense punch bag will sway more when you hit it, so do not strike it hard. A proper filling will help you to customize the density of your bag. For beginners, we will recommend a lightweight bag. However, you can increase weight depending on experience level and physical strength.

Use garments as filling for a lightweight punching bag.

You can stuff your bags with cut-up strips of fabric using old clothes or scrap fabric. Adding material will limit filling density, but clothes filling will make your bag sway when you hit it.

Sawdust or Sand to make your bag heavier

Sand and Sawdust will add weight and density that you cannot get through clothes. Sawdust and Sand are inexpensive choices if you look for a punching bag for more brutal strikes. Add a tiny amount of fabric while adding Sand and Sawdust to avoid heavy weight or density.

Step 2: Preparation of Filling

Preparation of Filling

Cut Buttons, zips, and metal pieces off the clothes

It would be best if you cut buttons, zips, and metal pieces off the clothes you will use to avoid the tearing of the punch bag. You can do this thing while cutting the clothes into pieces as you won’t see them when they are in the bag. Cutting the clothes into fragments will increase the amount of filling fabric.

Pour the Sand or Sawdust in reasonable bags.

We will recommend you not to pour Sawdust or Sand directly into your bag as it can damage the bag and weaken it over time. Pour the stuff in suitable containers, add the property and seal the bags that nothing pours out.

Wrap the bags with duct tape to avoid ripping or tearing off

The duct tape will make the bag stay firmer and resist hard punches. Wrap the duct tape around the bag, even seal the opening, to keep them completely covered.

Weight the filling to ensure enough material

Please put them in a large rubbish bag and weigh them on the scale to weigh cloth pieces. Additionally, consider all the Sawdust or sandbags and sum up all the individual bags.

So, if the weight is less than your desire, you need to prepare more filling. To increase density, add Sawdust or sandbags, and to increase weight, add fabric only. We must guide you here that punch bag must weigh around 0.5 pounds per 1 pound of your weight; you can say your bag must weigh half of your body weight.

Step 3: Add the Filling to your bag

Add the filling in the Bag

Unzip your Punching Bag

Most of the punching bags come with zip closure, from where we add filling. If there is no visible zip closure, check the manuals or get online help. Star Combat comes with a premium range of punching bags that ensure durability, strength, and endurance with such specific features.

Add filling to the bottom of your bag.

If anyone is using fabric, drop the first layer in the bottom of the bag to entirely stash the place. But if you are filling your bag with Sawdust or Sand, drop the sand sacks first and then add clothes to fill the bottom layer around it. Such a method to cover sawdust or sand sacks will protect your bag from tearing or ripping off.

Use a tool to remove extra space or to pack the filling down.

Packing the filling down to remove the space in the bag, use a long tool to stuff the filling and make it more uniform. One can use any device like a baseball bat to reach down to the bottom of your bag.

Continue adding layers of filling.

If you use fabric fragments to fill the bag, drop the pieces into the bag over the previous layer and pack them down with the tool. However, to fill with sawdust or sand sacks, drop them down in the middle of the bag and surround them with fabric. Try your best to equally space bags up and down depending on the quantity of bags you add.

Zip your bag closed once you are done with the filling.

Make sure to fill the bag to the top, and there is no space left. However, if you struggle to zip the bag, you might need to pack the filling down or take out the top layer as the load is too stuffed.

Sizes and Materials of a Punching Bag

A punching bag usually weighs between 80 and 120 pounds, depending on the user’s body weight. Make sure to fill the bag with half of your weight; beginners use lightweight bags and increase the weight with advanced training.

Moreover, the outer material of the Punching bag is made of PVC, Plastic, Vinyl, Synthetic Leather, and Leather.

A Concluded Note

Training through a Punching bag for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts is essential. One can buy pre-filled punching bags, but buying an empty suitcase and filling can be affordable and less expensive.

You can stuff your bag with the filling according to your desired weight and density and add fabric, sand sacks, Sawdust, and sometimes even water. One can customize your punch bag by adding different materials.
