GOAT Fighters of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Roger Gracie

Legendary fighter Roger Gomes Gracie was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 26, 1981. His father was Mauricio Gomes, a jiu-jitsu black belt under Rolls Gracie and a well-known fighter in the 1970s known as Mauriço, and his mother was Reila Gracie, a daughter of Carlos Gracie, who, as one of the Gracie brothers, was BJJ royalty. As would be expected with such a lineage, Gracie began his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at an early age.

Now a former professional jiu-jitsu competitor and a retired mixed martial artist, Roger Gracie has been recognized as one of the greatest athletes in the history of the sport.  As a black belt, Gracie won a whopping ten titles while competing in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) World Championships. Gracie was known for his accuracy in getting his opponents to submit: his holds were an art all their own, while his grappling skills left little to be desired.
